Victor Valcu wurde in Bukarest, Rumänien, geboren und an der Choreographic School Bucharest und der Vaganova School St. Petersburg ausgebildet.
Ab 1969 war er erster Solotänzer an der rumänischen Staatsoper und tanzte Hauptrollen in „Schwanensee”, „Coppélia”, „Der wundersame Mandarin” und „Giselle” mit Tourneen in ganz Europa und Kuba.
Von 1974-1976 tanzte er mit dem Ballet de Marseille unter Roland Petit und war außerdem als Tanzpädagoge der Compagnie tätig.
1976 wechselte er an das Royal Swedish Ballet in Stockholm, wo er Hauptrollen in Stücken wie „Onegin” von Cranko, „Fräulein Julie” von Cullberg, „Schwanensee” von Conus, „The Moor’s Pavane” von Limon, „Moon Reindeer” von Cullberg, „Giselle” von Bruhn, „Manon” von MacMillan, „Las Hermanas” von MacMillan, „Pillar of Fire” von Tudor, „Drei Schwestern” von Panov, „Romeo und Julia” von MacMillan, „La Bayadère” von Makarova, „Les Noces” von Robbins und „Blue Skin” von Kylian tanzte.
Parallel zu seiner Tanzkarriere arbeitete er auch als Coach für das Royal Swedish Ballet und unterrichtete an der Royal Swedish Ballet School, seit 1977 auch an der Cullberg Company.
Von 1985 bis 1988 war er als Ballettmeister am Norwegian Ballet in Oslo und als Assistent von Flemming Flindt bei der Neuproduktion “Cinderella” und Andrey Porovsky bei „Victoria” tätig.
In der Spielzeit 1988/1989 choreografierte er selbst „Giselle” für das Norwegian Ballet.
Nachdem er von 1991 bis 1992 als Vizedirektor und erster Ballettmeister am Teatro alla Scala in Mailand engagiert war, machte er an verschieden Theatern Stationen als Coach und Ballettmeister. So führte ihn sein Weg an die Semperoper Dresden, das Teatro Colon Buenos Aires, die Opera di Roma, das Finnish National Ballet, Helsinki und Teatro San Carlo in Neapel. Seit 2003 ist Victor Valcu regelmäßig an der Einstudierung von John Crankos „Onegin” beteiligt, mitunter für das Royal Swedish Ballet, Bolshoi Ballet Moskau, Teatro Colon, Buenos Aires, Universal Ballet, Seoul, Teatro alla Scala, Mailand, Ungarische National Ballett, Budapest, Royal Ballet of Flanders, Antwerpen, Boston Ballet und das Ballet Nacional Sodre, Montevideo.
In dieser Spielzeit leitet er gemeinsam mit seiner Frau Agneta Valcu die Einstudierung von „Onegin” am Aalto-Ballett Essen.

Since 2003 Victor Valcu is leading several rehearsals of John Crankos “Onegin”, as he does in the season 2018/ 2019 with his wife Agneta Valcu for Aalto Ballett Essen.
