Agneta Valcu wurde 1949 in Stockholm geboren. Sie erhielt ihre Tanzausbildung bei Lilian Karina und an der Royal Swedish Ballet School in Stockholm.
1968 wurde sie als Tänzerin beim Royal Swedish Ballet engagiert und nach einer Ausbildung am Benesh Institute in London als Choreologin eingestellt. Von 1972 bis 2009 arbeitete sie als erste Choreologin, Ballettmeisterin und Produktionsmanagerin beim Royal Swedish Ballet.
In dieser Zeit notierte sie über 100 Choreografien und assistierte verschiedenen Choreografen wie Robbins, Kylian, Tudor, Massine, Balanchine, Limon, Neumeier, MacMillan, Makarova, Spuck, Cullberg, Isberg, Christe, Cranko und Ashton und zeichnete somit für einen Großteil des Repertoires verantwortlich.
Ihr erstes Engagement außerhalb Schwedens führte sie 1974 mit Robbins „Requiem Canticles” an die Bayerische Staatsoper München. Weitere Engagements folgten u. a. mit Kylians “Stoolgame” an das Norwegian National Ballet, Oslo und mit Crankos “Der Widerspenstigen Zähmung” an das Teatro Colon, Buenos Aires und die Opera di Roma.
1989 war sie bei der Erstaufführung von Makarovas „La Bayadère” mit dem Royal Ballet in London beteiligt. Des Weiteren arbeitete sie von 1991 bis 1992 als Ballettmeisterin und Choreologin am Teatro alla Scala, Mailand.
Im Jahr 2000 assistierte sie Natalia Makarova bei ihrer „Giselle”- Choreografie für das Royal Swedish Ballet und leitete die Wiederaufnahme 2002 und 2013. Außerdem assistierte sie Dame Beryl Grey bei „Dornrösschen” am Royal Swedish Ballet 1986 mit Wiederaufnahme 2002 und wiederum Natalia Makarova mit „Dornröschen” am Royal Ballet in London im Jahr 2003.
Tourneen mit dem Royal Swedish Ballet führten sie u. a. nach England, USA, Japan, Italien und Russland. Außerdem brachte sie 1982 mit dem Royal Swedish Ballet MacMillans „Manon” als erste Compagnie an das Bolschoi Theater in Moskau. Seit 2010 ist sie mit der Einstudierung von Crankos „Onegin” in der ganzen Welt unterwegs, z. B. am Teatro Colon, Buenos Aires, Universal Ballet, Seoul, Teatro alla Scala, Mailand, Ungarischen Nationalballett, Budapest, Bolschoi Theater, Moskau, Royal Ballet of Flanders, Antwerpen, Boston Ballet, Ballet Nacional Sodre, Montevideo und an der L’Opera de Paris.
In dieser Spielzeit leitet Agneta Valcu gemeinsam mit ihrem Mann Victor Valcu die Einstudierung von John Crankos „Onegin” am Aalto Ballett Essen.

The first staging outside of Sweden was in 1974 with Robbins “Requiem Canticles” for Bayeriche Staatsoper, Munich. Among other stagings abroad are e. g. Kylian’s “Stoolgame” for the Norwegian National Ballet, Oslo and Crankos “Taming of the shrew” for the Teatro Colon, Buenos Aires and the Opera di Roma.She also participated in staging of Makarova´s “La Bayadère” for The Royal Ballet when it was first performed in the UK in 1989. Furthermore she worked as ballet mistress and Choreologist at the Teatro alla Scala Milan from 1991 to 1992.
She was assisting Natalia Makarova on her production of “Giselle” for the Royal Swedish Ballet in 2000 and reviving it 2002 and 2013, Dame Beryl Grey on her production of “The Sleeping Beauty” for the Royal Swedish Ballet in 1986 and reviving it in 2002 and also
Natalia Makarova on her production of “The Sleeping Beauty” for Royal Ballet in London 2003.
Agneta Valcu has toured with The Royal Swedish Ballet to England, USA, Japan, Spain, France, Italy and Russia and the Royal Swedish Ballet bringing MacMillan´s “Manon” as the first company to Bolshoi Theatre in Moscow in 1982.Since 2010 she tours for regular stagings and revivals of Cranko’s “Onegin” for companies all over the world like the Teatro Colon, Buenos Aires, the Universal Ballet, Seoul, Teatro alla Scala, Mailand, the Hungarian National Ballet, Budapest, the Bolshoi Theatre, Moskow, the
Royal Ballet of Flanders, Antwerp, the Boston Ballet, the Ballet Nacional Sodre, Montevideo and at L’Opera de Paris. In the season 2018/ 2019 Agneta Valcu is leading the rehearsals of John Crankos “Onegin” at the Aalto Ballett Essen together with her husband Victor Valcu.
