Andreas Merz-Raykov inszenierte am Schauspiel Essen in der Spielzeit 2023/24 das Theaterstück „non-existent“ als Auftragswerk der Ukrainischen Autorin Natalka Vorozhbyt. Er studierte Dramaturgie in München und Theater-Regie an der Universität Mozarteum in Salzburg. Nach dem Studium war er am Bayerischen Staatsschauspiel und an der Volksbühne am Rosa-Luxemburg-Platz Berlin engagiert. Seit 2011 arbeitet er als freier Regisseur im In- und Ausland und hat auf mehr als 10 unterschiedlichen Sprachen inszeniert, u.a. auf Rumänisch, Russisch, Hebräisch oder Farsi. Von 2013 bis 2018 war Andreas Merz-Raykov als Regisseur besonders in der Russischen Föderation tätig und wurde dort 2015 und 2016 als "Bester Regisseur" für den nationalen Theaterpreis Goldene Maske nominiert. Aus Protest gegen den russischen Angriffskrieg auf die Ukraine und als Reaktion auf immer stärkere staatliche Unterdrückung hat Andreas Merz-Raykov 2022 beschlossen seine Karriere in Russland nicht fortzusetzen. Als Teil eines weltweiten UnterstützerInnen-Netzwerks engagiert sich Andreas Merz-Raykov dafür, die Stimmen ukrainischer KünstlerInnen im deutschsprachigen Raum hörbar zu machen.

He studied dramaturgy in Munich and theater directing at the Mozarteum University in Salzburg. After his studies, he worked at the Bavarian State Theater and the Volksbühne at Rosa-Luxemburg-Platz in Berlin. Since 2011, he has worked as a freelance director in Germany and abroad, staging productions in more than ten different languages, including Romanian, Russian, Hebrew, and Farsi. From 2013 to 2018, Andreas Merz-Raykov worked primarily in the Russian Federation and was nominated for the national theater prize "Golden Mask" as "Best Director" in 2015 and 2016. In protest against Russia’s war of aggression against Ukraine and in response to increasing state repression, he decided in 2022 to end his career in Russia. As part of a global network of supporters, Andreas Merz-Raykov is committed to amplifying the voices of Ukrainian artists in German-speaking countries.
